Show below is the first patent pending VR AR gun controller prototype on what looks curiously like a Beretta over/under shotgun because it is a Beretta over/ under shotgun.
Unlike other “gun controllers” this kit is meant to be fitted onto a real gun
Not a toy that looks exactly like a real gun and feels and weighs like a real gun
But a real real gun. In this case, a shotgun – to practice AR and VR shooting simulators like CLAZER
Why ? Because if you are going to practice shooting clays in virtual reality, you might as well introduce some real reality into it – in the form of your own shotgun.
The thing sticking out of the barrel is the motion tracker. The gizmo strapped to the receiver is the trigger actuator. The paddle over the trigger guard is the trigger actuator.
If this all looks a bit clunky, don’t worry, you won’t be able to see it when you have your VR goggles on.
And the production model will be smaller and lighter.

I just want to say that the day this whole system is available for the iPhone, Zeiss VR goggles, and with an ISSF skeet program, I will be all over it like Oprah on a baked ham.
chip northrup says
Do no get between Oprah and food . . .
The gun controller is being built for the HTC Vive rig
ISSF = we need a range to film it. All trajectories are empirical
Zeiss VR goggles – with Samsung Gear VR – released this month
iPhone – after we finish the Samsung release
Jerry says
will the gun controller be available for other platforms or only the HTC Vive?
chip northrup says
Initially, the VR / AR gun controller will only work with the HTC Vive set up – because we (and everyone else) can only get the necessary hardware from HTC Vive.
Oculus Rift, Sony, etc. do not actively support 3rd party peripheral controllers. HTC does.
The HTC Vive operating system – SteamVR – likewise supports 3rd party solutions – it’s open source.
No clue when we can have a VR gun controller for Oculus Rift, much less Sony or Apple.
Will just keep trying
JerryS says
Thanks for clarifying. I guess I’ll just have to roll with the HTC Vive then. But I will be holding out for ISSF skeet.
chip northrup says
Fair enough. We are going back to the National Shooting Complex in a week or so and will see if we can film ISSF.
Jerry says
How does the current skeet/trap version work with respect to releasing the target? Is it voice released or does it just go off on its own?
Carly Simpson says
Will check it out
